Probably not the website for this but I'm bored. Going thru albums that slaves have bought me. To think that this album came out 12 years ago, I decided to review it again. This album was created based on Madonna's inspiration she got from Green Day's "American Idiot" record. This is NOT your typical Pop Diva album. The title track hit #1 across the first world and part of the third world. The album takes part of the Anti-War and American Culture issues from American Idiot and is spoken through Madonna's interpretation artistically. The album covers drug recovery that is a major crisis in America, 18 yr Olds coming home in Caskets from war, Soldiers and muslim children covered in blood dragged across the stage while conservatives laugh and block it out. American Life became the first Dance album to feature 7 Top-10 Consecutive hits on the billboard dance chart, with 5 at #1. 5 Singles were released and Charted highly around the world. The album was a major success worldwide, but in its home country flopped on mainstream radio despite it being the most played album in the clubs of 2003-2004 and gained Platinum Status. American Life gave Madonna the "Dixie Chicks" syndrome. Madonna truly believed in what she wrote and didn't just steal ideas from a band, she covered issues such as addiction and bad parenting creating a generation of lost children. From 2000-2009 Madonna Released several #1s world wide as her relevance in America began to flounder due to her political beliefs. She remains the best selling artist globally from 2000-2009, but her career in America was tarnished by this album sadly. Radio listeners world wide were so disgusted by the war and our president yet Americans couldn't face reality. European listeners felt as if this album hit the nail right on the head, especially seeing the music video to the title track that was removed in 12 hours due to conservative outcries. If you own this record or have it on CD (Or illegal Download) listen to the lyrics and you will gain a lot of respect for this woman.
